Sfumato Studios is a small software studio building calm, careful work at the meeting place of art and technology. Cadrelle is its first opening.
Sfumato — Leonardo’s word for the soft transitions where light quiets into shadow. From the Italian sfumare, “to evaporate like smoke.”
The name was chosen because the technique is the opposite of how most software is made today. Sfumato is patient, layered, almost invisible. Edges are not drawn; they emerge. We try to make work that resembles that.
We make digital experiences for people who would rather spend an hour with one painting than scroll past a hundred. Quiet, considered, made to be returned to.
We build slowly. We don’t take advertising. We don’t farm attention. The product is the point.
A daily art puzzle app for iPhone, iPad, and Android. Restore famous paintings piece by piece, then return to a living museum of curator’s notes, daily highlights, and monthly exhibitions.
The first opening begins in May 2026.
